Smog: Electric buses all set to ply on Lahore roads soon

The Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Usman Buzdar has approved the Green Buses project to help Lahore city get rid of ever-increasing air pollution especially smog that has lately turned into the fifth season in South Asian country’s plains.
“Green electric buses’ will run on six routes in the city, covering 106 km,” Usman Buzdar announced while chairing a meeting in eastern city of Lahore on Wednesday.
The Lahore Transport Company would be transformed into Punjab Transport Company with transport inspectors, sub-inspectors and sergeants to be recruited for the organization, he added.
Chief Minister said that electric buses would also be introduced in other cities of the province under public-private partnership.
He directed the authorities to ensure cleanliness at Orange Line Metro train stations and warned that he won’t compromise on this issue. He said he would pay surprise visits to these stations to review cleanliness measures.
Lahore with Metro Bus System and Orange Line Metro Train is already considered Pakistan’s only city with state of the art mass transit system.
