Pakistan’s Punjab province bans Ajinomoto salt

Cuisine lovers will no more be able to relish on the savoury taste of the  Monosodium Glutmate in the food  as Punjab Food Authority, the food safety watch dog in central Pakistan, has banned the sale and use of China Salt, Ajinomoto, calling it injurious to human health. According to Scientific panel of the authority, the Monosodium Glutamate salt, commonly known as Ajinomoto  causes headache, palpation and neurotic disorders. “Being a source of hypertension, it may be harmful to the pregnant women,” Director General, Punjab Authority Noorul Amin Mengal warned. The authority has set March 31 a deadline to completely end the use of the China Salt in the food and frozen products at  hotels and restaurants across the Punjab province. Monosodium glutamate, a sodium salt is used as spice in Chinese dishes. Ajinimoto or MSG is available as salt and is also found in barbecue sauce, frozen and canned food to name a few. According to medical experts,  dehydration. Swelling on the face, eyes and skin tightness are few harmful effects of Ajinimoto. MSG can gradually lead to chest pain, breathing disorder and laziness. Even cold or running nose, sneezing and drowsiness are few other health disorders of MSG. Burning sensation in the stomach and throat are experienced after having Ajinimoto due to its acidic ingredient.
