Pakistan: Musaddiq Abbasi appointed as PM’s adviser on accountability and interior

Former Director General of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) , Brig (rtd) Musaddiq Abbasi has been appointed as Prime Minister’s advisor on Accountability and Interior, according to a notification issued on Wedsnesday.
He is replacing Shahzad Akbar who resigned on January 24 after holding the post for over three years.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 93 of the Constitution […], the president, on the advice of the prime minister, has been pleased to appoint Brig (retired) Musaddiq Abbasi as adviser to the prime minister on accountability and interior with immediate effect.”, says the notification.
According to media reports, PM Imran Khan was not happy with the performance of Shahzad Akbar, the man hand-picked to lead the accountability process.
Brigadier retired Musaddiq Abbasi hails from Birote Tehsil of Abbottabad. He belongs to a middle class family. His father Muhammad Sadiq Abbasi was a prominent political figure in his area.
Musaddiq Abbasi got primary education from Ausia, Murree and Intermediate level from Government Post Graduate College, Muzaffarabad.
Musaddiq Abbasi was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in 1974 and retired as a Brigadier after serving in the Pakistan Army for 30 years.
When former President Pervez Musharraf established the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Musaddiq was posted as Director Records in Karachi and was soon transferred to Peshawar as DG NAB in 2010.
In 2011, Brigadier (retd) Musaddiq Abbasi was transferred from Peshawar to Islamabad where he served as DG Awareness and Prevention.
Musaddiq Abbasi retired in 2013 after serving 13 years in the NAB.
