Speeding car accompanying Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s ‘homecoming’ motorcade crushed a nine-year-old child to death in central Punjab town of Lalamusa on Friday.
According to media reports, the child was among a crowd of supporters gathered to greet Nawaz Sharif as his motorcade passed through Lalamusa.
It seems that he strayed onto the road and was hit and crushed by one of the cars belonging to the Elite Force.
According to eyewitnesses, the child succumbed to his injuries while the vehicles passed over him.
The child’s father lost consciousness, experiencing heart palpitations, after he saw his child’s mangled body on the road.
Locals said that the father was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors were trying to save his life. No member of the PML-N reached there or sent condolences, electronic media reported.
Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, on Friday evening took to Twitter to express grief over the incident and said that the local PML-N leadership had been asked to provide assistance to the grieved family.
