Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s cousin dies in Peshawar

Noor Jehan, first cousin of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has died in Pakistan’s north western city of Peshawar. She was 52.
Known by her nick name Munni, Noor Jehan was suffering from oral cancer for the last few months and finally lost her battle against the fatal ailment onTuesday, her husband, Asif Burhan said.
Grief-stricken Asif said ShahRukh’s father and Munni’s father were siblings and she used to contact her cousin Shah Rukh on telephone occasionally.
Noor Jehan has left behind three children including two sons and one daughter. She had named her elder son after Shah Rukh Khan who is now studying in FSc ( pre-medical).
Noor Jehan had visited India to meet Shah Rukh Khan in 1997 and 2011. In her first visit, she was accompanied by her husband and later she was alone.
During her visits to India, she took special gifts for Shah Rukh Khan including Peshawar Chappal and boski, a cloth used to be worn by Peshawar’s elite on special occasions, Asif Burhan recalled.
Jehan, 52, a resident of Mohallah Shah Wali, close to Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazaar, had previously served as a district and town councillor. Noor Jehan was politically active and even filed nomiation papers for the provincial assembly seat PK-77 in 2018 general elections before withdrawing her candidature at the last moment.
