The death toll of Sunday’s Oil tanker fire incident in Central Pakistan has risen to 165 as ten more persons succumbed to burn wounds at various hospitals across the country over the last 48 hours.
The fire victims were trying to loot the oil spilled from the capsized tanker when the incident took place. They were collecting petroleum in bottles, Jerrycans and even domestic utensils when the tanker exploded ‘ an eye witness said.
Eyewitnesses said some people in the vicinity were smoking cigarettes, which could have ignited the inferno.
Dozens of vehicles, including 75 motorbikes, were engulfed in the blaze that erupted in Ahmadpur East near the National Highway in Central Pakistan Bahawalpur district.
