National Day: Pakistan to honor late Cuban leader Fidel Castro, hold spectacular parade

Pakistan’s President Mamnoon Hussain will confer ‘Pakistan Civil Awards’ to 141 Pakistanis as well as foreign nationals for showing excellence in various fields  on the occasion of Pakistan Resolution Day being celebrated on Friday,  March 23.

Former Cuban President Dr. Fidel Castro will be honoured with Nishan-i-Pakistan for rendering unwavering services to Pakistan at a ceremony being held in the federal capital, Islamabad. Other receipients of the awards include late human rights activist Asma Jahangir , a number of scientists, artists and media men.

Pakistan Day is celebrated to commemorate the resolution passed at a meeting held in eastern city of Lahore on March 23 1940 whereby Muslims of South Asia had demanded a separate homeland. This resulted in the movement , culminating in the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.

To mark the day, a spectacular parade will be organized in Islamabad. This year, President of Sri Lanka  Maithripala Sirisena, will be the ”Guest of Honor” Senior officials from the Central Asian  republics will also witness the parade. During his three-day stay in Pakistan, the Sri Lankan President will also meet the President Mamnoon Hussain and the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to discuss matters of mutual importance, according to a statement of Pakistan’s foreign office. MoUs on cooperation in the fields of training of civil servants, diplomats and youth development would also be signed during the visit.
