US-Pakistan relations might have touched the lowest ebb in the history. But people to people relations are still intact. The marriage of Mary Kathleen and Adeel Awan is an example. The American woman travelled all the way to north-western Pakistan town of Haripur to marry a man she met on Facebook.
Mary Kathleen befriended Adeel Awan when he first sent her a friend request on Facebook after which the two got to talking.
According to media reports, 50 years old Mary, whose Muslim name is now Maryam, travelled all the way to Haripur and converted to Islam and then married 24 years old Adeel.
The wedding pictures show the bride, dressed in traditional clothes, surrounded by Adeel’s family.
This is not the first instance where a foreign woman has married a Pakistani man after meeting through Facebook.
In January, A Canadian woman travelled all the way to Pakistan to tie the knot with a man she met online.
Agnetha had met Qaiser Abbas, who hails from Jalalpur Bhattian of central Pakistan Hafizabad district, on the social media website Facebook.
A similar incident occurred on November 20, 2017, when a Chinese woman travelled to Pakistan to be with a man from Layyah she met in 2015.
