Afghan Peace: Pakistan, US discuss upcoming Geneva moot

The United States’ Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells has discussed the upcoming conference on Afghanistan being held in Swiss town of Geneva with Pakistani officials.

“ Alice Wells has reiterated US Secretary Mike Pompeo and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s objective of establishing a mutually-beneficial relationship between the two countries,” according to a statement of US embassy in Islamabad on Wednesday.

US diplomat  also highlighted the importance of all actors in the regions to improve stability, security and cooperation in the South Asia region.

Alice Wells who concluded her two day visit to Islamabad on Wednesday, discussed important issues in the bilateral relationship and welcomed commitment by Pakistani leaders to work towards the objective, the statement added.

Director General Military Operations Nauman Zakria, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior and Minister of Finance Asad Umar met with Alice Wells as well.

Furthermore, members of civil society, think tanks representatives and experts in regional security also met with Wells to discuss a range of issues.

Opportunities to develop business and economic relations between the two countries were also discussed during the talks, the statement concluded.
