After experiencing weeks of scorching heat, Pakistan is expected to have first Monsoon shower during the last week of June, promising respite to the heat-stricken people especially during holy month of Ramadan.

According to Monsoon Outlook issued by Pakistan Meteorological  Department, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will receive  normal monsoon rains. However, heavy rains  may take place in the central province of Punjab due to ongoing heat wave.

The monsoon rains are likely to be below normal in Southern provinces of Sindh and Balochistan.

The Met office has also warned of Glacial Lake Outburst Flooding  (GLOF) in Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral, the northern areas of Pakistan.

The National Highway Authority has also taken steps for the construction and restoration of different roads across the country including Karakorum Highway, Gilgit-Skardu Road, Chitral Road, roads from Rawalpindi to Murree and Naran road among others ahead of the Monsoon season.

Met Department has also issued a drought alert as the South Asian country has received blow normal rains from January to May by 45 percent. This may have bad impact on Pakistan’s agriculture sector especially at a time when the dams have already hit the dead level.
