The Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Shahbaz Sharif, presently facing allegations of making money in a mass transit project, has asked media to report the issues objectively, without spreading stories of libelous or slanderous nature.
“ Put up or shut up,” Shahbaz Sharif told a news conference at his office in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore.
He also announced to serve legal notices on a media group, ARY news , asking it to prove all the allegations against Punjab government within 48 hours.
Shahbaz Sharif said that he had never been involved in any financial embezzlement during all the three tenures as Chief Minister of Punjab, the largest province of Pakistan.
“ I will be answerable to the masses in case of any corruption; Even the corruption charges against me prove after my death, (my) deadbody be hanged with a pole,” an emotional Shahbaz Sharif said.
He said that vilification campaign against the PML (N) government was being supported by land mafia and those involved in getting their loans written, clearly pointing finger towards Jahangir Khan Tareen, the central leader of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the process of accountability should have not been stopped with the verdict of Panama Papers Scandal. “ Not going ahead , will ultimately terminate the accountability process in Pakistan,” he warned.
He said that Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan should respond to the defamation notice served on him immediately.
Punjab Chief Minister also suggested changes in the defamation laws so no body could level baseless allegations.
He said that there had been no incidence of corruption in Multan Metro Bus project.
