The Association of Former Ambassadors (AFA) has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of the daughter of former Ambassador Shaukat Ali Mukaddam and called for an exemplary punishment for the murderer of Ms Noor.
According to a press release, over 100 former Ambassadors, members of AFA noted with disgust and horror the brutal and heinous crime and called upon the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take a notice of it to ensure that justice is done.
They said that the police and Prosecutor should get hold of all previous medical and criminal record of the culprit. Supervision of this case would help reduce alarmingly high crime against women in Islamabad.
The Association appreciated the personal message of support from the Foreign Minister to the bereaved family that the culprit would be brought to justice.
The AFA members apprehended that the murderer may be made to escape the country using his dual nationality. Therefore, the Association demands that his name should be placed on the ECL to ensure that he does not use his family influence and power to slip away from the country. It is imperative that justice be served.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Qazi Jamilur Rehman has instructed the investigation team probing the brutal killing of Noor Mukadam to seek the placement of suspect Zahir Zakir Jaffer’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL), according to a statement issued by the police spokesperson.
Noor, 27, daughter of former Pakistani diplomat Shaukat Mukadam, was found murdered at a residence in Islamabad’s upscale Sector F-7/4 on Tuesday.
The IGP, in a meeting with the investigation team today, told them to recommend to the relevant authority that the suspect’s name be placed on the no-fly list.
He also instructed the team to acquire Jaffer’s criminal records from the United States and United Kingdom, and told them to approach the relevant authority to make it happen.
The police chief further recommended that the evidence collected from the crime scene be sent for forensic analysis.
“The case should be concluded in the light of concrete evidence at the earliest,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying. “All the requirements for justice should be met so that the culprit be handed severe punishment.”
The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) has demanded that the cases of violence and abuse against women and children be heard by anti-terrorism courts and a time limit be set for verdicts in such cases.
The council urged Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed to take notice, and expressed its concern over the recent surge in cases of violence and abuse against women and children.
“Cases such as Noor Mukadam and Usman Mirza bring disrepute to the country and the nation,” the statement read, adding that such cases were an indication that terror, frustration and sexual violence were on the rise in society.
