Weather pundits have predicted that Monsoon is going to enter in weaker phase after mid-August in South Asia including Pakistan.
Due to decrease in the frequency of spells, near normal rainfall is expected in Punjab , Khyber Pakhtun Khaawa and Kashmir during the month of August while and below normal rains have been predicted in Sindh and Balochistan.
Three to four spells of rainfall with chances of isolated heavy downpour are expected in upper Punjab, KP, AJK and GB. While one to two spells of light to moderate intensity are predicted in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
Meanwhile, the temperatures are likely to increase by more than 5 degree centigrade in Pakistan’s extreme northern regions including Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral from August 3 to 7. High temperatures and localized heavy downpour may initiate the process of Glacial Lake Outburst Flooding (GLOF) in the northern areas especially in the valleys of Datuchee village and Bargot in Gilgit and Bindogol and Golain in Chitral. Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued an alert for the authorities.
