Afghan Peace: Zalmay Khalilzad meets Pakistan Army chief, senior civilian officials

U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad held meetings with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and senior civilian officials on Monday, according to a statement issued by US Embassy in Islamabad .
Ambassador Khalilzad stressed the need to accelerate progress towards a just and durable peace in Afghanistan.
In his discussions, Ambassador Khalilzad emphasized Pakistan’s continued important role in the peace process, especially to help Afghans achieve a political settlement and comprehensive ceasefire.
He affirmed that the United States will continue to consult closely with our allies, partners, and countries in the region regarding how we can collectively support the peace process.
According to a press release issued by ISPR, Pakistan Army’s media wing, during a meeting between Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa with the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and General Austin Scott Miller, the Commander Resolute Support Mission Afghanistan at GHQ, Rawalpindi, matters of mutual interest were discussed.
The leaders also shed light on matters related to regional security and the ongoing Afghanistan Reconciliation Process.
During the meeting, the visiting dignitaries greatly appreciated Pakistan’s role in the ongoing peace process, the ISPR Statement added.
