International cricket is all set to return to Karachi in February next as Pakistan Cricket Board has agreed to hold four matches of the country’s biggest tournament, Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the port city.
“ We may hold four matches of third edition of PSL in Karachi; We have successful experience of holding PSL Finals in Lahore,” Chairman PCB Najam Sethi told a press conference in Karachi.
He said that Sri Lankan team is arriving in Lahore for a T-20 match with Pakistan by the end of October.
In this connection, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Shah told the PCB chief that Karachi is a peaceful city; therefore, international cricket should return to this cosmopolitan city.
Meanwhile, the PCB has decided that the Pakistan Super League squads for the third edition of the competition will be announced after the PSL Draft that will be held closer to the start of the tournament.
Teams will be allowed to retain a few players going into the PSL Draft but with a sixth team added to the mix, it will be interesting to see if the Pakistan Cricket Board allows teams to hold back on too many players. Foreign PSL players will be paid USD 10,000 per match to play in Pakistan next season.
This was after the Multan Sultans became the sixth side to join the Pakistan Super League following a bidding procedure. They join the Peshawar Zalmis, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United as the other teams in the competition. The PSL squads for the third season will be updated here as soon as the Draft is over.
