United States President Donald Trump on Saturday said that India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire,” amid both countries launching strikes and counter-strikes against each other’s military installations.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

The unexpected announcement was confirmed shortly after by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister,, Ishaq Dar who said the ceasefire would come into effect immediately.

Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, commended prime ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif “on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace”.

Earlier today, Pakistan’s prime minister Shahbaz Sharif , said his country has “avenged the blood of innocent lives” after launching retaliatory missile strikes on India through Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos (Operation Solid Wall).

Shehbaz Sharif described the attacks as a “befitting response” to Indian strikes on Pakistan, which were carried out on Wednesday.
