Atleast 12 persons were killed when a chairlift set up to connect two villages near Murree in north-eastern Pakistan collapsed on Thursday.
This is the second chair-lift related accident in South Asia in a week time. At least seven people were killed after a tree fell on a cable car in Gulmarg area of Indian-administered Kashmir on Sunday.
According to rescue 1122 officials, the rope of improvised chairlift named ‘Doli’ by locals connecting Banwari Village to Charra Pani collapsed after which the lift fell into a deep gorge.
The injured were shifted to Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi.
State- of- the- Art chairlifts installed at the New Murree (Patriata) in Punjab and Ayubia (Khyber PakhtunKhawa) , the most frequented hill stations in Pakistan have been a source of attraction.
However, the improvised chairlifts , also called doli by the locals are also used to cross the streams and nullahs in the mountainous areas of northern and north-eastern Pakistan.
