Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy Saturday announced that the National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd (NTDC) has completed the upgradation of the existing 130 km long 220 kV double circuit transmission line from Jamshoro to KDA-33 (Karachi).
The transmission line is expected to be energized on or before 31st March 2021.
The completion of this transmission infrastructure will result in the increase of 450 MW power supply from national grid to the KE power network during summers once load demand is high.
“Consequently, it will result in reduction in power outages in in Karachi,” a spokesman of Ministry of Energy said.
This increase in power supply from national grid to KE is in addition to the existing supply arrangement comprising of 650 MW from the 500 kV & 220 kV networks and 150 MW wind power through 132 kV network. Thus, a maximum of 1100 MW power supply from national grid to KE will significantly improve power supply situation for Karachi.
The power shorage has been dogging Paksitan’s port city for the last couple of decades, making the lives of the residents miserable during the months of June, July and August.
